Some stories break your heart. Others remind you why hope is always worth fighting for.
The SPCA of Bradley County’s Angel Fund exists for animals like this month's feature, Valkyrie. This special fund allows us to provide lifesaving medical care when an animal’s treatment will exceed our normal medical budget, but there is a strong chance for a full and happy recovery. Without the Angel Fund, many injured and neglected animals would never get the second chance they deserve.

Valkyrie.
If there was ever a dog who showed us just how powerful a second chance can be, it’s Valkyrie.
In late March 2026, Valkyrie came to our shelter after being found in a condition that was almost impossible to comprehend. A wire cable had been wrapped tightly around her neck and secured to a metal post. The cable had become so deeply embedded in her neck that our team had to use cutters just to free her.
Her injuries were devastating. The damage to her neck was so severe that it was difficult to even look at — but beneath those wounds was a dog who still had so much life left in her.
And Valkyrie wasn’t ready to give up.
With the help of our incredible veterinary team and dedicated staff, Valkyrie began the long process of healing. Thanks to the generosity of our Angel Fund donors, we were able to provide the medical treatment, medications, ongoing care, and time she desperately needed.
Today, Valkyrie has made a full recovery.
The painful wounds that once surrounded her neck have healed, and the dog who arrived suffering has been given the opportunity to begin an entirely new chapter. Her transformation is a powerful reminder of what can happen when compassion, veterinary care, and a community willing to help all come together.
Stories like Valkyrie’s are exactly why the Angel Fund exists. There will always be another injured, neglected, or abused animal who arrives at our shelter needing care far beyond the norm. Because of our supporters, we can be there when those animals need us most.
